Title: Deliquesce
Year: 2019
Medium: Digital Medium
Size: Digital Media
Details: This video was an experimental piece using Final Cut Pro in order to incorporate movement by creating a visual effect of overlapping layers on top of an image of myself. This work could be considered as another self portrait, yet this time incorporating the surreal usage of imagery from my daily life. I created these effects by dripping ink into water and overlaying these multiple videos into a seamless projection upon my own image. This experimentation allowed me to explore the ideas of unifying the symbolic imagery that flow and movement create upon past memories of life in an intricate, transcendental way.
Title: Toxicité
Year: 2019
Medium: Oil on wood panels
Size: 2D 256x64 cm
Details: This is a self portrait in which I wanted to emphasize my vulnerable side with the usage of my hands to face in order to symbolize a moment of breaking down emotionally. During these moments of letting go, is also when I feel most vulnerable. By using the structure of an altarpiece triptych, with the empty etherealness in the background, it was my intention to create a sense of symbolic self doubt in this captured moment by layering warm metallic gold leaf on top of cool green hues. The additional hand coming from the left side of the piece is attempting to pull the fabric away with the purpose to expose my perceptions of self even further.

Title: Upside Down
Year: 2019
Medium: Watercolor on paper
Size: 2D 35x60 cm
Details: These are figure studies in which I inverted and created a collage from a reference book. Later on, I used this collage to create a watercolor work.
Title: Kulort
Year: 2019
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Size: 2D 100x150 cm
Details: This piece originated in a time period where I was in low spirits. Instead of painting a reflective artwork, I decided to create something that contrasted my current emotions and that also worked as a therapeutic object of my own. I wanted to create a simplistic and impactful piece utilizing my knowledge on color psychology. Briefly; red was representing strength and power, yellow symbolizing cheerfulness, joy and mental clarity, black representing exclusivity and white representing purity and simplicity. It was later displayed in my brother's home and I aimed for it to evoke the same feelings for him and create an atmosphere of mindfulness.

Title: Tainted
Year: 2019
Medium: Graphite pencil on paper
Size: 2D 35x50 cm
Details: I digitally processed the background of this graphite pencil drawing.
Title: Casa Milà
Year: 2019
Medium: Watercolor on paper
Size: 2D 35x50 cm
Details: Gaudi's free-flowing architectural works have been an inspiration to my architectural designs, since I decided to major in Architecture. This watercolor work reveals two interior views that I have studied from reference in a book about Casa Mila, one of Gaudi’s masterpieces in Barcelona. My composition incorporates two views and two halves into one with the bottom half of supporting columns being used to support windows that are moving vertically in one point perspective.
Title: Just a Scratch
Year: 2019
Medium: Collage, acrylic, charcoal on cardboard
Size: 2D 70x100 cm
Details: In my country, there are still women who are oppressed to the extent to which they have limited control of their lives. They cannot act, speak, or dress in the way they want. In this piece, I wanted to illustrate this issue by painting women who are surrounded by the chains of this type of oppression. As the highest placed woman in the painting advances forward, she is stabbed by a barbed wire which is meant to symbolize her claim to rights. Yet, these types of steps forward are usually silenced. The fact that the other women do not have visible faces can show that they are just objects placed on vanishing pedestals. By utilizing one point perspective and the repetition of spiral line, I intended to create a pushing and pulling of imagery for the viewer to understand this surreal space.
Title: Alacati
Year: 2019
Medium: Ink and gouache on paper
Size: 2D 21x30 cm
Details: This staircase is done from direct observation in Alacati. The patterns at the back are natural patterns inspired by the tree in the garden of Iris Portfolio Studio in Alacati.
Title: MOMENTS
Year: 2019
Medium: Gouache, fabric, marker on paper
Size: 2D 40x60 cm
Details: This is a self-portrait where I used gouache paint to experiment with color combinations. The vivid color choices represent the inner mind of self that is intoxicated from the invasion of personal space. The literal statements represents the wake up calls to people because with social media, we get lost in the moment instead of living in the moment. The composition allows the viewer to feel as if they're intruding and looking at something they shouldn't have. Inspired from the color combinations, I decided to create a one-line sketch that complements it.
Title: Animal Flow
Year: 2019
Medium: Graphite pencil, colored pencils, gouache on paper
Size: 2D 25x25 cm
Title: Ephesus
Year: 2019
Medium: Marker on paper
Size: 2D 30x42 cm
Details: Done from direct observation at the ancient city of Ephesus. Then, I overlaid the marker sketch on top of one of my acrylic/epoxy pours.
Title: Deconstructed
Year: 2019
Medium: Watercolor, acrylic and epoxy resin on paper.
Size: 2D 25x35 cm
Details: A modern approach to historical buildings.
Title: Office Design
Year: 2019
Medium: Gouache on paper / Digitally Processed
Size: 2D 35x50 cm - Digital Media
Details:I wanted to combine my gouache patterns with architectural elements, therefore I created this mockup digitally to show how my fine arts side influences my architectural design.

Title: Human Interface
Year: 2019
Medium: Oil on paper
Size: 2D 50x45 cm each
Details: This diptych painting intends to emphasize the portrayal of oneself on social media and the effect it has on others. People only share parts of their lives they only want others to see. The internet consists of photoshopped images of people in which we give judgement by either liking or scrolling past. This creates an unhealthy environment of jealousy, obsession and possibly hate. By creating this piece, I wanted to bring to attention that what we see on social media sometimes is not actual reality. Pointing fingers is an important symbol in this work because it represents the reaching out of fingers that are “scrolling and judging.”
Title: Mockup Study
Year:2019
Medium: Acrylic on paper - Digital media
Size: 2D 50x65 cm - Digital Media
Details: I made mockups on the walls of different buildings by using my abstract paintings.
Title: Fusion
Year: 2019
Medium: Watercolor, gouache marker on paper
Size: 2D 50x65 cm
Details: Hagia Sophia is a significant landmark in Istanbul which was converted into a mosque from a cathedral. This fusion between Middle Eastern and Western elements led me to question how I can incorporate this cultural fusion in my work. As I kept the traditional image, I incorporated modern elements while drawing the building from bird's eye view and its plan. I also modernized the ottoman calligraphy to further convey my message.
Title: Forgotten Spaces
Year: 2020
Medium: Photography
Size: Digital Media
Description: These photographs are taken in Galata, Istanbul where I photographed the overlooked, empty spaces in a crowded, touristic district. Later on, I digitally processed these photographs experimenting with colors. The colors allowed me to distort one’s perception in order to create a surreal, dreamlike atmosphere.

Title: AYA I
Year: 2019
Medium: Wood and cardboard
Size: 3D 30x40x50 cm
Description: My initial idea for this piece emerged as I  started observing how my body moved to the rhythm as I danced. I photographed, analyzed and sketched different dance movements of mine and started to question how these movements can reflect on my own architectural designs. Later on, I chose three moments that I wanted to create in 3D. By using wooden sticks to recreate these poses, I was able to analyze the human form in a linear, three dimensional form as I created a conceptual sculpture.
Title: AYA II
Year: Medium
Medium: Mixed Media on Paper
Size: Various Sizes
Description: Being inspired from AYA 1, I decided to analyze these sculptural forms also in 2D. By incorporating different architectural movements in the designs, I was able to explore how their elements can be used to create unique designs. I was inspired from deconstructivism for the left one. The absence of continuity, symmetry and harmony created a free-flowing, abstract design. The one on the middle was inspired from futuristic architecture in the way that it involved sharp edges, unusual angles while the circular tube going across was considered to be a walking path between the structures, providing dynamism. The simplicity of it promotes beauty in only shape and lines rather than ornamental aspects. Furthermore, the structure on the right explored the art deco movement in terms of its stylized decorative elements using geometric forms, zigzags, chevrons. I created my own decorative element combinations and transferred these elements on the linear figurative form. By using the characteristics of different architectural movements on these three forms based on dance poses, I was able to create unique conceptual, architectural designs.
Title: Entangled
Year: 2019
Medium: Hangers, wire and spray paint
Size: 3D 70x50x40 cm
Details: We had just moved into a new apartment, therefore we had extra materials laying around. I decided to up-cycle the hangers I found in the basement to create an abstract architectural piece. I reconstructed an ideal apartment building with balconies and wanted to point out the cramped, depressing living space it provides. This sculptural piece shows how these spaces can be opened to create a more tranquil, relaxing atmosphere.
Title: Echoing
Year: 2019
Medium: Digital Medium
Size: Digital Media
Details: As social media creates a world of its own, more people are isolated from society day by day. This shift away from reality and the alienation people create results in the disassociation of one with oneself, allowing people to develop a digital alter ego. Furthermore, as people forget their own actual reality, they tend to spiral into jealousy, low- self esteem, depression and feelings of inferiority. By looking at the work of Sue de Beer, I wanted to experiment again with Final Cut Pro by creating two visions side by side as we perceive the world with both our left and right eyes. The left and right frames alternate between multiple visions for the viewer to receive the imagery in order to play with their sensory perception and perspectives.

Title: Piece by Piece
Year: 2019
Medium: Ceramics and Wire
Size: 3D 40x25x35 cm
Details: My initial inspiration for this 3D piece came from my research into the “kintsugi” technique of the ancient Japanese. By looking at the artworks of contemporary artist Yee Sookyung, I intended to create a portrait bust of a bald male figure which I would deconstruct in order to attempt my take on the “kintsugi” technique. The piece explores symbolically the fragility of human nature and intends to emphasize the brokenness of self. The idea of piecing the self together again will nevertheless always leave a mark or scar. These visual scars are our experiences and create one’s defense mechanism.
